Project overview
Bringing the sound of family life, opportunities to improve personal prospects, a rejuvenated local hub and 57 modern, sustainable and desirable affordable homes to a deprived area of Bristol, Lawrence Weston has delivered true community benefit. Despite a constrained live site, ecological challenges and poor weather throughout winter 2023 and 2024, residents are now enjoying fresh, modern family homes fit for the future. Starting on site in February 2023, this project saw 57 affordable housing units being built to replace dilapidated 1950s precast concrete dwellings and vacant lots which had sadly been subject to vandalism and fly tipping in recent years. As part of Bristol City Council’s Project 1000 – an initiative to boost much needed housing availability in the area – Lawrence Weston provides much needed, high quality, affordable housing in northwest Bristol. Key facts include: 1. Everyone deserves a home to be proud of, so delivering a quality project that fosters community was essential. The homes and area are designed to encourage civic pride and sustainability. 2. Originally conceived pre-pandemic, by the time the project started in 2023 it required value engineering to keep within budget and a review to reflect updates to Part L and Part F regulations. This was delivered without scrimping on quality and prioritising the needs of future residents. 3. A CCS Leading Light Award was given to Social Value Manager, Kim Lawrence, in recognition of her work to help break unemployment and poverty cycles in the area, whilst simultaneously building public confidence.
