The Green Skills Advisory Panel (GSAP) is a UK wide and international initiative aimed at closing the green skills gap and providing entry routes into green careers. Originally established by Exeter College as the Green Construction Advisory Panel (GCAP), GSAP has expanded its scope to address the green skills gap more broadly across the construction, engineering and manufacturing industries. GSAP is notable for its innovative approach to green skills training and education. Key innovations include: A UK-wide framework that brings together over 2,000 organisations Actively involves employers in designing new curriculum that meet industry standards and best practices Introduces green construction skills and sustainable technologies into school and college curriculum A National Partnership Board directs GSAP's work, representing members' interests at a national level in government, industry forums, and public discussions. Since its inception, the South West GSAP has had a demonstrable impact on capacity and delivery within the green construction sector: Over 600 16+ learners introduced to Retrofit 1,500+ school-aged learners introduced to retrofit and renewable technologies 100+ adults introduced to retrofit and renewable technologies 5 new insulation courses developed targeting thousands of installers. Recognised by 3 awarding bodies Formal teaching qualifications achieved by 16 SW GSAP stakeholders Winner of the Exeter Sustainability Awards Highly Commended at the Unlock Net Zero Awards GSAP stands out due to its comprehensive and impactful approach across its three core pillars as created and defined by its members: Awareness and Outreach Initiatives Partnerships and Collaboration Education and Training Programmes
